 BY SIMEON SESAY

President Ernest Bai Koroma On Wednesday February 13th Commissions an additional 10 mega watts power plant at Blackhall road for residents of  eastern Freetown.

In his keynote address he reiterated the pledge he made to parliament in providing electricity to the whole of the country starting   with the capital city Freetown. He noted that his Government inherited 7 megawatts of electricity and within six months this has been increased to 32 megawatts which he described as a big boost from the  expected sixty mega watts needed to run the city.

In the not too distant future Koroma noted that  his Government would make a public pronouncement on electricity for the provincial areas . Eastern Freetown he went on further is densely populated with  industries and was badly in need of electricity.

The  president called on all citizens to sustain the electricity by paying their bills and expressed disappointment over what he referred to as unpatrotisim by some individuals who are in the habit of plundering electric  cables belonging to the National Power Authority which he stated is a move to  thwart their efforts in providing electricity for the country. He called on all well – meaning Sierra Leoneans to arrest ad prosecute such individuals .

Within the next six moths my Government would address the issues of  electricity and it would be a thing of the past the president stated.

Also present was the chairman Presidential emergency task force on electricity Dr Lake and the  honourable minister of energy and power Asfatu Kabbah.

The Honourable Minister stated  they were at the Blachall Road  Power station as a show of commitment to his Excellency’s  dream of restoring power to the country. She thanked the Income electric group one of the independent power providers for meeting the deadline of supplying the machines to her ministry.
